Victorians less safe as crime skyrockets under Daniel Andrews and Labor

Crime continues to surge under Daniel Andrews with the latest crime statistics revealing a 4.1% increase year-on-year and 15.3% since Labor was elected.

Youth crime continues to skyrocket and makes up the worst offending age bracket with 15-19 year olds having committed 7,333 alleged incidents – the largest number of crimes against the person by an age group ever recorded.

Hard working small business owners are also being hit hard with farms, chemists, service stations, construction sites, pubs and shopping centres all suffering through record levels of crime.

The shocking rise of the smash and grab “swarming” offences are of great concern to small business operators and place the safety of the community at significant risk.

Regional Victoria has also suffered large spikes in crimes particularly in areas like Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura and Shepparton.

There are now almost 200 more crimes committed each and every day or over 70,000 per year compared to when the Liberal Nationals were last in government.

Comments attributable to Shadow Attorney-General, Edward O’Donohue:

“By any measure these statistics are a failure of Daniel Andrews to keep our community safe.

“Daniel Andrews has no plan to keep Victorian families safe in their homes or save young people from a life of crime.

“Worse than these headline statistics are the increases in robbery, drug dealing and drug trafficking; crimes that cause so much harm in the community and leave people afraid in their own homes.

“Despite all of Daniel Andrews’ promises and his supposed tough on crime rhetoric, Victorians are more likely to be victims of crime now than they were a year ago.

“Rather than waging a war on our hard working police, Daniel Andrews should be waging a war against crime in Victoria.”
