Eastern Victoria Region MP Edward O’Donohue has joined Yarra Ranges Council at a ceremony to mark the completion of works on Olinda’s Hilltop project.
Mr O’Donohue, on behalf of Sport and Recreation Minister Damian Drum, inspected the project this morning with Liberal candidate for Monbulk Mark Verschuur.
“This is a fantastic outcome for the Olinda community and I thank the Hilltop Recreation Association and other community members for their tireless work in making it happen,” Mr O’Donohue said.
“The Yarra Ranges Council is to be commended for its significant contribution to the project and the Napthine Coalition government is proud to have contributed as well.”
Mr Verschuur said the facility will make a huge difference to the user groups and others in the community.
“The Hilltop Recreation Association has done a fantastic job in driving this project, securing the funding and making it happen,” Mr Verschuur said.
“I also recognise the Council, Bendigo Bank and the local community for their vital contributions to the project.”
Yarra Ranges’ Chandler Ward Councillor Jason Callanan said Council’s funding contribution for the project was part of its commitment to upgrade the region’s ageing sporting pavilions.
“Council recently endorsed a pavilion funding policy that will see more than $2 million allocated to sporting pavilion improvements each year,” Cr Callanan said.
“This new pavilion project has seen the community work together to create a facility for everyone to enjoy, and there are many sporting clubs in the local area that will benefit. It’s a project we are proud to support.”
The new facility includes change rooms for the different user groups, a gymnasium and multipurpose community spaces.
The project was jointly funded by the Coalition Government which provided $350,000, the Yarra Ranges Council which provided $1.1 million, the Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group which provided a grant of $250,000, and the Hilltop user groups which raised $100,000.
