Daniel Andrews and Labor have lost control of crime with anti-social behaviour and gangs causing fear for public transport users.
A Matthew Guy led Liberal Nationals Government will get back in control of rail safety by introducing a daytime PSOs shift at Lilydale Railway Station.
Currently, PSO shifts are from 6pm until the last train. A Liberal Nationals Government will introduce a new and additional daytime shift between 10am and 6pm for up to 20 railway stations identified as daytime crime hotspots, including Lilydale, and will work with Victoria Police and The Police Association Victoria to recruit and deploy the 100 new PSOs that will be needed.
Crime data obtained from the Crime Statistics Agency reveals a 12.91% increase in crime in Lilydale since Daniel Andrews was elected and a 66.67% increase in aggravated robbery.
Despite initially criticising PSOs and labelling them “plastic police”, Labor has kept this successful policy.
Frontline police numbers have fallen under Labor with Police Association figures showing there are now 190 fewer uniform officers than in 2013 despite Victoria’s population increasing by over half a million.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Community Safety, Edward O’Donohue:
“A Liberal Nationals Government will make Victoria safer.
Violent crime and anti-social behaviour is out of control under Daniel Andrews and only the Liberal Nationals will get back in control of community safety by investing in more frontline police, more PSOs, and tougher sentences and to make bail and parole harder to get.
If we are going to encourage more people to use public transport we need to make sure users are kept safe.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Evelyn, Bridget Vallence:
“Locals using Lilydale Station for trains and buses are concerned about safety day and night. The Liberals are committed to improving safety and will introduce more PSOs at Lilydale Station from 10am through to the last train.
The Liberals local plan for community safety also includes ensuring Mooroolbark Police Station is resourced to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and modernising Mount Evelyn Police Station.
The Liberals are committed to supporting frontline police and PSOs and will provide the vital resources they need to tackle crime locally and keep our community safe.”
