Labor must not proceed with flawed Bill that will silence sex assault victims

Labor has ignored the concerns of the Liberal Nationals and Crossbench MPs about its flawed Bill, but to ignore the pleas from sexual assault victims and their families is just heartless.

The flawedJustice Legislation Amendment (Supporting Victims and Other Matters) Bill 2020, that is due to be debated in the Upper House today, will stop families from being able to tell the stories of their lost loved ones.

Today yet more voices join the chorus of calls for Labor to withdraw or delay this destructive Bill.

A brave victim of assault, Juliette, who spoke to the Herald Sun and Adrian Bayley’s mother who pleaded in an interview with Neil Mitchell for the government to allow the voices of sexual assault victims to be heard.

While being interviewed by Neil Mitchell on 3AW this morning Attorney-General, Jill Hennessy was unable to make a coherent argument for Labor’s Bill, let alone a compelling argument.

Labor’s flawed Bill has already caused enough trauma, Jill Hennessy must not proceed with this Bill and cause even more harm until she consults with the families of deceased victims of sexual assault.
