Bass MP Brian Paynter and Eastern Victoria Region MP Edward O’Donohue are calling on Daniel Andrews to fund the upgrade of the McGregor Road level crossing in the upcoming State Budget.
Cardinia Shire Council has completed the duplication of McGregor Road and the pressure is now on Daniel Andrews and Labor to upgrade the level crossing to relieve the congested road.
When called upon in Parliament to commit to the desperately needed project, Labor Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan deferred all responsibility to the Council saying: “As McGregor Road is a local road managed by the Cardinia Shire Council, your question should be directed to the Council for its consideration.”
However, level crossing upgrades are managed and funded by the State Government.
Ms Allan’s negligence of this simple fact shows contempt for the frustration local motorists face every day.
McGregor Road links motorists to the Pakenham Bypass and it is expected that by 2021 a total of 32,000 vehicles will use the road each day.
Comments attributable to Member for Bass, Brian Paynter:
“The McGregor Road level crossing is a nightmare for local road users – one that is only going to get worse as our population continues to increase.”
“Daniel Andrews needs to listen to the Pakenham community and commit to this much-needed project.
“The Andrews’ Government does not understand, or is choosing to ignore, the problems facing Pakenham road users.
Comments attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Edward O’Donohue:
“Ms Allan’s suggestion that it is up to Cardinia Shire Council to fix the level crossing, is just not true.”
“This response is characteristic of Labor’s failure to provide the infrastructure our growing state so desperately needs.”
