This bill could already be law if Daniel Andrews had stopped playing cheap politics and had put it to a vote.
Last year the Government recklessly withdrew this bill from debate so it could not be passed.
The Liberal Nationals support the Firearms Amendment bill, as various Coalition speakers stated last year.
As has been our clear position, we moved last November a series of common sense amendments to strengthen the bill, these are:
• Reduce the period of the Firearms Prohibition Order from 10 years to 5;
• Change the avenue of appeal from VCAT to the Magistrates Court; and
• Limit the delegation for issuing an FPO to Assistant Commissioner or above.
If these amendments do not pass, the Liberal Nationals will vote for the Governments’ bill.
It shows how desperate and bereft of ideas Daniel Andrews has become when he needs to stoop to such gutter politics, rather than working in the interests of Victoria Police and community safety.
