The chaos in Victoria’s Corrections system has continued, with confirmation of another serious violent incident yesterday at the Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC).
Under questioning in State Parliament, Corrections Minister Gayle Tierney confirmed the reported rumour on 3AW this morning with prison officers assaulted and police called.
The Minister also confirmed an injured prisoner was taken to hospital and the prison was placed in lockdown.
The violence yesterday follows the worst prison riot in Victoria’s history at the MRC in 2015, with taxpayers already slugged with a $100 million repair bill.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Corrections, Edward O’Donohue:
“The chaos in Victoria’s prison system continues unabated under Daniel Andrews and his incompetent Minister Gayle Tierney.
The MRC continues to be a tinder box of violence and lawlessness, and this incident just confirms that Daniel Andrews hasn’t got control of the prison system.
Whether it’s behind bars, on our streets or wearing a red shirt, Daniel Andrews simply has no answer to restore law and order in Victoria.”
